Galveston Island, Texas 2013

This year, it was a bit warm during our visit to Galveston Island, Texas and time was limited, so I did not get to shoot as much of the island as I had planned. I will take a strictly picture taking tour of Galveston the next time I go to visit. I was quite surprised this year to see the blue on the horizon. Normally, the water is brown as far as you can see due to the churning gulf waters, but the ocean was relatively calm and peaceful, hence the stifling heat. Too bad it wasn't clear all the way up to ankle depth.

Willow Cemetery

The above statues are located in the Willow Cemetery in Haskell, Texas. Growing up in Haskell, these two statues are statues that I have gazed upon with wonderment and adoration. I know it sounds morbid, but I spent a lot of time in the cemetery as a child. From my home, the cemetery was a short walk. Sometimes, I would cut through the cemetery on my way through town to visit my grandmother and great-grandmother, who lived on the other side of the local railroad tracks. I would always stop and place my hands on the feet of the statue of Christ. To this day, I will swear to you that one foot and one hand are always hot, and the other other foot and hand is always cold. As a child, I thought it was a miracle, but as you can see from the picture, there is a very scientific reason for this. One hand and foot are almost always in the sun and the other hand and foot are almost always in the shade.

Bubba & Amber Thomas Benefit Show-n-Shine

The Bubba & Amber Thomas Benefit Show-n-Shine was held on April 27, 2013 in an effort to assist the needs of the Thomas family due to an accident that seriously injured Bubba and sadly took the life of his wife, Amber. The Thomas Family did not have health insurance nor life insurance due to the high cost of insurance. The show ended up pulling in over $5,000 in funds to assist with the needs of the family.

Bubba is a co-worker and friend of my husband, DJ. Bubba owns a small business, Texas Auto Credit in Abilene, Texas. Bubba has been on the road to recovery, and I am happy to announce that he is getting around fairly well after months of reconstructive surgery and physical therapy. However, the road to recovery is far from over, and months of therapy are ahead. The classic Chevrolet truck above is Bubba's truck. Below are photos of the other entries to the Show-n-Shine benefit.
