Thunderstorms

The clouds had begun to roll in, so I asked DJ to take me out to try to get some photographs of the incoming storms. I love how they turned out. The first picture has been digitally enhanced, but the other pictures have not been changed. The final shot is actually a picture of the apartment complex we live in with the shutter opened from one end of the complex to the other.

Abilene Zoo

Damien has finished yet another year working as a Zoo Teen. This is his third year to finish out the summer as a Zoo Teen.

The Abilene Zoo is a nice place to visit, especially since they have finished all of the renovations. The "Our Backyard" section provides patrons an idea of what creatures and plants that are part of their own ecosystems. Damien has helped to plant most of the plants that fill the garden. He also helped build the individual environments for the different creatures in the reptile, creepy crawly, and bird areas of the zoo. I think he did a very good job, and am very proud of him.

Our Love

Our love is faded
It's old and worn
Our love is battered
It's tested and torn

Our love's luminous
It burns with ardor
Our love's wondrous
Aflame with fervor

Nighttime Drive

Dyl and I decided to capture Abilene while she sleeps. We played with the neon lights and visited Masteño, Luis Jiménez's sculpture of a wild horse. Some people believe that Jiménez created these horses as the Horses of the Apocalypse. For those who do not know, Jiménez is the artist of the horse that stands before the Denver International Airport. If your curiosity is peaked, check out Sinister Sites.

Dyl and I searched for sinister sights throughout abilene, but found very little other than a full moon. What we did find was how different recognizable places in Abilene look during the day. The dinosaur looking into the Volkswagon Beatle atop the parking garage for The Grace Museum looked as funny as ever, and Dyl was constantly searching for something to shoot.

Dyl and I visited the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest on South 7th and Amarillo. The church was established in 1883.

Before long, Dyl and I were back on the north side of Abilene shooting the First Baptist Church on North 3rd. We talked and laughed as we photographed the sights. We shared stories over a Dr. Pepper at the North Side Sonic before we decided it was time to call it a night. This evening was a great bonding experience with my baby boy.
